“We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature – trees, flowers, grass- grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence… We need silence to be able to touch souls.” – Mother Teresa
A quote by Mother Teresa seemed to perfectly fit the picture I took of last night’s last full moon of 2019 (taken before dawn). It kept spinning in my mind, especially the last part. “…We need silence to be able to touch souls.”
Because, our own should be included.
During the holiday season, we’re surrounded by beautiful reflections of love. We’re equally inundated with too much…of everything, being bombarded by images, sounds, smells & tastey treats.
Sights & sounds · Feelings & touches · And, chaos disguised as red & green cheer…
Where are you at right now? How do you feel?
Are you frantically trying to keep pace? Overwhelmed by your holiday to-do list? Worried you won’t get that item on sale? Keeping a smile on your face, but feeling like you could cry? Angry that you have to bake & don’t even like to? Are you restless, under the facade of peace?
Let’s still ourselves for a bit & block out the noise. Embrace some quiet time to reflect…and reconnect, by breathing in the calmness & peace of the LOVE that this season represents. After all, love is bigger than the world & anything in it. Then, challenge yourself to remember this moment.
Because sometimes we forget that we need to disconnect & rewire our minds, getting in touch with our own soul – in silence & stillness – before the things that truly don’t matter begin to mean too much.
Are there areas of the holiday season that you can reexamine & embrace with real peace? Do you have some wiggle room in your routine to welcome some personal growth?
Where can you escape the noise?
And most importantly, where can you connect with, as well as nourish, your soul?
I understand it might be hard, the action as well as the mirror, but sometimes it’s important. You are important & owe it to yourself. You are more than your feelings.
For a while, escape the world & its chaos. May you have a beautiful, bountiful & blessed season.
